The evil spirits who are with us—and through whom we
communicate with hell—think of us as nothing more
than contemptible slaves. They pour their appetites and
delusions into us and so lead us wherever they want.
In contrast, the angels through whom we communicate
with heaven consider us sisters and brothers. They
instill in us a desire for what is good and true and by this
means lead us in freedom, not in the direction they want
but in a direction that pleases the Lord.
This shows what each is like, and that it is slavery to be
led by the Devil but freedom to be led by the Lord.
