In an inner sense, old age does not mean old age, because
our inner self or spirit does not know what old age is. As
our body, or outer self, ages, we pass on to a new stage of
life. Our spirit improves with age while our body deteriorates, and it improves even more in the other world. The
Lord is constantly leading the inhabitants of that world
who are in heaven to a better life and eventually to the
bloom of young adulthood—even those who died at a
good old age. This shows that on an inner plane, old age
symbolizes life.
