A New View of Jesus
Emanuel Swedenborg asserts throughout his writings that God is human. He’s not saying that God has an actual human body, but rather that God is the essential source of the characteristics that also make us human: love and wisdom. Swedenborg therefore rejects the notion of a single human being who lives in heaven and walks around performing miraculous feats. God’s essence, Swedenborg tells us, exists outside of space and time, and is truly infinite, eternal, and present in all things in the created universe. Throughout his writings Swedenborg uses the term “Lord” to mean Jesus Christ as the embodiment of God. In this short work, he emphasizes that the trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not three coexisting divine Persons but are three aspects within one divine Person—Jesus in his resurrection.
One of Swedenborg’s most popular works, this volume describes a loving God who is equally present with all people on earth–regardless of race or religion–and explores the underlying unity of all living things.
True Christianity is a systematic description of Swedenborg’s view on the church in this world and the next. Volume one covers topics such as the nature of God, Jesus, the Ten Commandments, faith, and good works.
