About the The Shorter Works of 1763

The four main short works in this volume form the basic foundation of eighteenth-century spiritual teacher Emanuel Swedenborg’s thought on God (The Lord), the Bible (Sacred Scripture), spiritual growth (Life) and belief (Faith). They have commonly been published together in other editions under the collective title The Four Doctrines.

This Deluxe edition publication, translated by the eminent Rev. Dr. George F. Dole, is an extensively indexed and annotated compilation, making it the ultimate guide for well-versed Swedenborgians and the uninitiated alike!

Engage in the writings that influenced centuries of philosophical thought and spiritual/religious movements around Christian reform, Bible interpretation, and the afterlife. Order The Shorter Works of 1763 >

New Century Edition Support

The NCE team announced in September 2019 that they had achieved a major milestone when Latin translator Lisa Hyatt Cooper finished translating all 15 volumes of Secrets of Heaven. With her completion of that long task, all of Swedenborg’s published theological works have now been translated under NCE guidelines, but there is still much work to be done! In October 2019, Series Editor Dr. Jonathan S. Rose gave an important update about where the ongoing project is and where it goes from here.

If you’re inspired to contribute a gift to the NCE project, your donation will directly support our ongoing scholarly research, Latin to English translations, and publication of the New Century Edition of the Works of Emanuel Swedenborg! You can also choose to give to our newly created Dr. Jonathan S. Rose Translation Endowment Fund to help support translation efforts into the future.

You can make a donation online now or contact Membership and Development Coordinator Gwen Williams at 610-430-3222, ext. 109.
