Viewership on our offTheLeftEye YouTube channel hit an all-time high in the first three months of 2020, reaching more than 1 million unique viewers!
“Unique viewers” is a statistic that YouTube recently began offering; it’s a count not of the number of views that a video gets, but of how many individuals watched it. The total number of unique viewers was 1.1 million, accounting for 1.8 million views and 209,700 hours of watch time. For comparison, in the last quarter of 2019, we had about 530,000 unique viewers, accounting for 1 million views and 173,400 hours of watch time. In other words, we had double the number of people watching our videos in the beginning of 2020 as we did at the end of 2019!
The reason for the increase was a new advertising technique that allows us to take advantage of the way that YouTube’s search algorithms work. We advertise videos based on popular keywords, and adjust the language that we’re using based on what gets the best results. For the test, we focused on shorter videos rather than on longer episodes, including one of our most popular videos of all time, “You Are the Lungs,” which gives a gorgeous visual interpretation of Swedenborg’s concept of the Universal Human (also known as the Grand Man in some translations).
As of April, we were on track to repeat that viewership feat in the second quarter of 2020. We’re looking forward to bringing Swedenborg to a whole new audience.
It was just this past February that the channel passed the 90,000-subscriber milestone, and we expect to reach 100,000 subscribers soon!
New Season of Swedenborg & Life Is Now Online
After a very well-received series on the afterlife, Swedenborg & Life is switching gears over the spring and summer for a season of shows on divine providence: how God’s love and the design of the universe guides us in big ways and small.
